Anheuser-Busch is a participant in River Network's Strengthening Conservation Partners program, which helps groups and communities locate resources (both human and financial), build sustainable organizations, monitor rivers, and protect and restore community water sources. It also fosters relationship building with companies and stakeholder dialogue in local communities. Through this program, River Network and Anheuser-Busch chose four breweries to participate in local efforts to improve watersheds. River Network and Anheuser-Busch then selected four local watershed organizations to partner with the breweries. The following is a summary of these local partnerships:

Fort Collins, Colo., Brewery and Trees, Water & People

Trees, Water &People (TWP) attended the 2005 River Rally on an Anheuser-Busch scholarship. As a result of the River Rally meeting, River Network, TWP, the city of Fort Collins and the Fort Collins Brewery were able to form a partnership to improve the Poudre River watershed through community-based activities involving brewery employees and local environmental groups. TWP helped facilitate the brewery’s Every Drop Counts program, an effort to help conserve the local watershed for the Fort Collins community, including planting projects in critical areas in 2005 and 2006.

Cartersville, Ga., Brewery and the Coosa River Basin Initiative

The Coosa River Basin Initiative (CRBI) attended the 2005 River Rally on an Anheuser-Busch scholarship. CRBI has worked with the Cartersville Brewery on river cleanups and recreation trail restorations and has supported water monitoring projects on the Etowah and Coosa rivers.

Fairfield, Calif., Brewery and the Suisun Marsh Natural History Association

The Suisun Marsh Natural History Association (SMNHA) attended the 2005 River Rally on an Anheuser-Busch scholarship. The Fairfield Brewery and SMNHA are working together to create a display at the brewery tour center that will teach visitors about the importance of protecting watersheds. Fairfield Brewery employees are planning to help SMHNA build a wildlife mitigation at the brewery's nature sanctuary.

Newark, N.J., Brewery and the Passaic River Coalition

The Passaic River Coalition (PRC) attended the 2005 River Rally on an Anheuser-Busch scholarship. As a result, the Newark Brewery and PRC have partnered and are exploring opportunities to get brewery employees involved in the protection of the Passaic watershed. In January 2007, the Newark Brewery made a $25,000 donation to PRC to support its efforts to improve water quality and to help ensure an adequate supply of water is available in the future. PRC has been involved in the development of water supply plans on the state and county levels, and it was a major supporter of New Jersey’s watershed management program.
