ST. LOUIS (April 1, 2008) – Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. today announced it donated $50,000 to The BackStoppers, Inc., an organization dedicated to assisting the families of fallen emergency personnel in the St. Louis region.

The donation was presented to Col. Ronald A. Battelle, retired Chief of Police of St. Louis County and Executive Director of The BackStoppers, by Tom Diven, general manager of the Anheuser-Busch Center and John Britt, senior director of corporate security at Anheuser‑Busch, during a ceremony held at the Anheuser‑Busch Center in Fenton, Mo.

“As we have witnessed in the wake of the recent tragedy in Kirkwood, The BackStoppers provides immediate and invaluable assistance to the families of officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty,” said Diven. “The financial peace of mind the organization is able to bring to the spouses and children left behind is simply incredible.”

Anheuser-Busch has a long history of supporting The BackStoppers and the efforts of emergency personnel in the St. Louis region. This includes hosting the annual fundraising event “Battle of the Badges” flag football tournament at the Anheuser-Busch Conference and Sports Center. This year’s event, which will run from May 2 through May 4, 2008, is being held at the center for the fourth consecutive year.

Started in 1959, The BackStoppers provides assistance to the families of police officers, firefighters, publicly funded paramedics and EMTs in the St. Louis region who have lost their lives performing their duty. The organization’s efforts include paying the family’s mortgage, providing health coverage and helping young people attend college.

For more than 100 years, Anheuser-Busch has reached out to groups in need, contributing to community organizations across the country and touching countless individual lives. During the past decade alone, the company and its foundation have donated more than $370 million to charitable organizations, including those that support education, health care, the arts, cultural enrichment, social services and environmental conservation.
