Rescued Sea Otter Pups Thrive At SeaWorld San Diego

February 12, 2008

Two orphaned California sea otters rescued as pups are thriving at SeaWorld San Diego. Abby arrived at SeaWorld in July 2007, and Ellie was brought to the park last November. Both pups were only days old when abandoned by their mothers.

A team of animal care specialists at SeaWorld has been hand raising the pups and providing them round-the-clock care for more than six months.

"Both are doing fantastic," said senior animal care specialist Mark Bressler. "We've moved them to a bigger pool to help them continue to develop their skills. So far we are quite pleased."

It is anticipated that the pups will join two other California sea otters on exhibit at the park's Rocky Point Preserve in the next few months.

The rescue and rehabilitation of injured and ill animals has long been a hallmark of SeaWorld San Diego and the other Busch Entertainment Corporation's Worlds of Discovery parks. It's another demonstration of Anheuser-Busch's continuing commitment to conservation and the environment.
