Susan G. Komen for the Cure ® Recognizes Anheuser-Busch with Award for Voluntarism
February 8, 2008
On Feb. 8, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization honored Anheuser-Busch as its corporate recipient of the 2008 Jill Ireland Award for Voluntarism at a leadership conference in Dallas, Texas.
The award honors the memory of actress Jill Ireland, who died of breast cancer in 1990. It recognizes an individual, corporation or organization that champions the Komen mission. Anheuser-Busch was chosen for the 2008 award because of its long-standing support of the St. Louis Race for the Cure event, as well as its involvement with the St. Louis Komen affiliate.
“Anheuser-Busch is thrilled to receive this prestigious award from Komen for the Cure,” said Laura Reeves, senior director of corporate giving at Anheuser-Busch. “Our company has a long tradition of supporting the communities in which we do business and has been a proud sponsor of the St. Louis Race for the Cure since its inception. Our participation has been a rich and rewarding experience for our employees and their families. We look forward to continuing to work together with Komen in the fight against breast cancer.”
Anheuser-Busch has been involved with Komen for the Cure since 1999 and was the first platinum sponsor of the race. It is estimated almost 21,000 Anheuser-Busch employees, their friends and families have participated in the race.
Anheuser-Busch employees also have played crucial roles at Komen’s Affiliate. Employees serve as members of the board, sit on various committees and volunteer at events.
