2008 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year Nominations Under Way Through NFWF

ST. LOUIS (May 17, 2007) – Budweiser and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (Foundation) will team up again this fall to honor four conservationists and award $65,000 in grants for candidates’ conservation projects as part of the 2008 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year program.

The annual Budweiser Conservationist of the Year program recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the outdoors and conservation. Each year, a committee selects four conservationists as finalists from dozens of outstanding nominees, and adult consumers 21 and over from across the country vote for the Budweiser Conservationist of the Year in an open-ballot process on Budweiser.com.
The 2008 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year selects a conservation organization to receive a $50,000 grant from Budweiser and the Foundation. The three runners-up each direct a $5,000 grant to a conservation organization of their choice.
“Volunteers can have a powerful impact on conservation efforts. By recognizing outstanding individuals each year through this program, we hope to inspire others to follow in their footsteps,” said Jeff Trandahl, executive director, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
The 2008 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year will be recognized during the industry’s largest trade show, the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, Feb. 2-5 in Las Vegas.
G. Richard Mode, the 2007 Budweiser Conservationist, has spent the last three decades mobilizing outdoorsmen into a powerful force that has impacted local, state and federal resource management decisions and legislation. Mode, of Morganton, N.C., is the founding father of the Table Rock Trout Unlimited (TU) chapter in North Carolina, was named TU’s National Conservationist of the Year, and serves as North Carolina’s Affiliate Representative to the National Wildlife Federation (NWF).
“Recognition for doing what you love is truly an honor,” Mode said after receiving the award. “I am elated to win the 2007 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year award. We're going to take this $50,000 and turn it into $250,000 worth of programs and wildlife enhancement.”
