HELPING PEOPLE MAKE SMART CHOICES
We want our products to be enjoyed responsibly by adults. That’s why we, along with our partners, play an active role in promoting responsible drinking. It’s important to remind consumers that the fun doesn’t stop when the drinking stops.
Since we launched Know When to Say When in 1982, we’ve furthered many initiatives that promote responsible alcohol consumption. We’ve also teamed with wholesalers, retailers, educators, parents, law enforcement, elected officials, professional sports teams and consumers.
Most recently, we’ve announced a pilot program in Columbus, Ohio, to reduce the harmful use of alcohol by 10% before year-end 2020. This approach reflects our belief in developing a proactive mindset to help reduce harmful alcohol use and empowering consumers to make smart choices.
Here are a few of the programs we sponsor:
BUD LIGHT PARTY CODE
Anheuser-Busch and our wholesalers distribute the Bud Light Party Code to give our consumers tips to help party hosts assure their guests consume alcohol beverages responsibly and make it home safely.
To take our responsible drinking initiatives further, Anheuser-Busch provides Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS), which educates bartenders, wait staff and store clerks about how to properly check IDs and identify and prevent potential alcohol abuse situations. The program also discusses techniques through which servers can help prevent drunk driving, such as calling a cab for patrons who may have had too much to drink, or encouraging friends to provide a safe-ride home.
This in-stadium, fan-focused designated driver program helps team owners, facility managers, event promoters and wholesalers promote responsible alcohol consumption among adult sports fans. The program is activated in partnership with 98 teams in MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL and MLS and selects NASCAR tracks.
National Social Norms Center
Since 1999, Anheuser-Busch has invested more than $11.5 million to support social norms programs at universities across the country to help reduce harmful drinking and reinforce the fact that the majority of college students are making responsible choices. Anheuser-Busch has supported the NCAA Choices program since 1991, funding $7.7 million in grants to 294 universities to implement alcohol responsibility programs that promote making smart Choices and prevent underage drinking, drunk driving and alcohol abuse. Alcohol Medical Scholars Program
Since 1999, Anheuser-Busch has partnered with the Alcohol Medical Scholars Program, an initiative that has trained 97 medical doctors and researchers who have taught more than 12,000 medical student attendees how to identify and care for people with alcohol use disorders. Since 1985, TEAM (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management) Coalition has flourished as a unique alliance of professional and collegiate sports, entertainment facilities, concessionaires, stadium service providers, the beer industry, broadcasters, government traffic safety experts, and others working together to promote responsible drinking and positive fan behavior at sports and entertainment facilities.
From its original existence as a fully-funded NHTSA program to its current national NPO status, TEAM has always prioritized three things:
(1) Employee training
(2) Fan education
(3) Alcohol service policy creation, promotion and enforcement.
