At Anheuser-Busch, every day is a recycling day, and the company’s employees are helping lead the way by identifying new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle at our facilities.  As a result, we recycle 99 percent of the solid waste generated in the brewing and packaging process, including beechwood chips, aluminum, glass, brewers’ grain, scrap metal, cardboard and many other items.  Additionally, our corporate office provides employees with  single stream recycling, which collects a wide variety of materials for processing.

We make strategic reductions to our fiber, aluminum and glass packaging which has significant benefits to the environment.  For example, in 2010 we made changes to several of our secondary packages, resulting in a net savings of 22,350 tons of fiberboard.  This helps:

  • Reduce the depletion of natural resources,
  • Reduce the greenhouse gas emissions to create the packaging, and
  • Reduce the waste that goes to recycling streams or landfills.
  • The Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation was established in 1978 and has helped our company be a leading aluminum recycler for more than 30 years.

Bud Light’s activation of America Recycles Day, a day organized by Keep America Beautiful dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs, helps bring important recycling messages to the brand’s consumers.  Additionally, through our family of wholesalers and partnerships with organizations like Keep America Beautiful, we provide recycling bins to sports venues, parks, entertainment venues and other locations to support local community recycling programs.

Anheuser-Busch also has been charter member of the U.S. EPA’s WasteWise program since its inception in 1993.  WasteWise is an EPA partnership program that recognizes exceptional performance by an organization for reducing its environmental footprint through innovative and efficient materials management practices.  There are currently more than 2,400 WasteWise Partners in the U.S.  Through our involvement with WasteWise, we not only share our best practices with other companies, but learn how to operate our facilities in a more efficient manner and environmentally responsible way.  Anheuser-Busch is the only brewer to be inducted into the WasteWise Hall of Fame, of which there are only 15 members.
