Anheuser-Busch, Drizly and TIPS Announce Partnership to Promote Responsible Alcohol Delivery Practices

2020 has been a year of shifting consumer shopping trends in the alcohol category amid the current public health crisis. Anheuser-Busch's commercial strategy is based on ensuring our portfolio of brands delivers what consumers want. The company's commitment to responsible drinking dates back more than 100 years, and as ecommerce and home delivery of alcohol expands as consumers adjust to a new normal, Anheuser-Busch is proud to work alongside Drizly and Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) to launch a first-of-its-kind partnership to promote the responsible delivery of alcohol amongst retailers and their customers.

As leaders in their respective categories, Anheuser-Busch and Drizly are committed to leading the way in promoting responsible drinking and alcohol delivery practices. Together with the help of TIPS, the global leader in education and training for the responsible service, sale, and consumption of alcohol, the partnership will encourage retailers to expand their training to incorporate educational tools and solutions for delivery personnel.

“As consumers seek convenient, safe and limited-contact alcohol delivery options, the importance of responsible alcohol delivery and need for robust training and educational tools have become even more relevant,” said Adam Warrington, Vice President of Better World at Anheuser-Busch. “Anheuser-Busch is committed to working with our partners to develop and deliver innovative solutions to ensure every sale of our products is conducted responsibly.”

With a 350% increase in overall sales year-over-year, Drizly continues to see robust growth in online sales of alcohol. As many retailers have transitioned to offering alcohol delivery and curbside pickup, Anheuser-Busch and Drizly seek to highlight the importance of responsible alcohol delivery and are proud to work with TIPS to offer sellers and delivery personnel strategies and guidelines to protect against sales to underage and/or intoxicated customers.

"We are proud to be partnering with Anheuser-Busch on this important initiative to promote safe and responsible deliveries across the Drizly network," said Cathy Lewenberg, Chief Operating Officer of Drizly. "At Drizly, we care deeply for our customers and are committed to promoting responsible drinking. We know our Retail Partners share that commitment. We believe this initiative will further empower our partners to operate safely, effectively, and with care as they connect with more and more customers through the Drizly network."

To kick off the partnership, A-B, Drizly and TIPS have developed a toolkit outlining responsible delivery best practices and training fundamentals. The toolkit includes content from the eTIPS Off Premise and Delivery certification course and aims to educate alcohol delivery retailers and delivery personnel on recognizing when a customer is intoxicated or underage. Topics include:

·       Retailer best practices

·       Guidance on selling and delivering alcohol legally

·       How to handle a refusal situation

·       Proper ID verification

“Retailers have always been committed to ensuring legal sales. When it come to the delivery of alcohol, that vigilance and commitment is no different. Whether it is a third-party delivery company or the retailer themselves, specific guidelines before the delivery and at the delivery site need to be followed. The transaction is unique. This is why it is so important to provide training,” said Adam Chafetz, President & CEO of HCI, provider of the TIPS program.

Anheuser-Busch has shared the toolkit with its extensive wholesaler network and Drizly will include the responsible delivery toolkit in its onboarding for new retailers and as an educational resource for its existing nationwide retailer network. While this toolkit will serve as a helpful resource for responsible delivery practices, retailers and delivery partners should still ensure they have reviewed all state and local laws to ensure their delivery practices are compliant with all federal, state, and local laws.
