DRIVING THE INDUSTRY TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Investing in sustainable logistics and a zero-emission fleet gives us PURPOSE BEYOND BREWING.
Investing in sustainable logistics and a zero-emission fleet gives us PURPOSE BEYOND BREWING.
The transport industry is one that is prime for innovative solutions and at Anheuser-Busch, we are continuously searching for ways to improve sustainability across our entire value chain and drive our industry forward.
As part of our 2025 Sustainability Goals, we have committed to reducing our carbon emissions across our value chain by 25% by 2025 – including by investing in partnerships to help improve the sustainability of our logistics operations.
Nationally, we travel a lot of routes and different distances to deliver our products over 350 million miles each year and we work with many digital freight partners to help ensure that we are delivering each beer in the most sustainable way possible.
We also plan to convert our entire long-haul dedicated fleet to renewable energy-powered trucks by 2025. By transforming our dedicated fleet to zero-emission technology, we will be able to reduce the carbon emissions from our transportation footprint by more than 18% - the equivalent to taking 13 thousand passenger vehicles off the road.
Anheuser-Busch has already transitioned more than 180 trucks in our St. Louis and Houston dedicated fleets to Renewable Natural Gas, one of cleanest burning fuels available. The two fleets are expected to travel more than 8.5 million miles each year and by transitioning to Renewable Natural Gas, we expect to reduce our emissions by more than 70% compared to conventional diesel.
We have also ordered up to 800 hydrogen-electric powered semi-trucks from Nikola, a pioneer in hydrogen-electric renewable technology. The zero-emission trucks will be able to travel between 500 and 1,200 miles and refuel within 20 minutes.
In our short-haul fleet, we have a partnership with BYD (Build Your Dreams), the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), and ENGIE Services U.S. (ENGIE), to deploy 24 BYD battery electric trucks in our California fleet as part of a state project to showcase economically and environmentally sustainable warehousing and distribution technology.
We are proud to be a part of this landmark achievement as the largest Class 8 electric truck deployment in North America.
To highlight the power of these partnerships, in November 2019, we completed our first ever ‘Zero-Emission Beer Delivery’ in partnership with Nikola and BYD – utilizing both companies’ innovative fleet technology to deliver beer from the local Anheuser-Busch brewery to the Enterprise Center using only zero-emission trucks.
No single company can build a more sustainable future alone but our zero-emission delivery has shown what is possible when we bring together the various strengths and assets within our network to work together towards a better world.
Investing in cutting-edge logistics technology to reduce our carbon footprint and reach our sustainability goals gives us purpose beyond brewing.
