In 1906, a devastating series of earthquakes hit San Francisco, and in under a minute, the city was completely decimated. The quake series was one of the most destructive natural disasters in our country’s history.
Anheuser-Busch founder Adolphus Busch was in San Francisco during the quake and narrowly escaped. After seeing the devastation of the area first hand, Adolphus was inspired to support the victims through the American Red Cross through a $250,000 donation. With that, the first charitable contribution on behalf of Anheuser-Busch was made.
Since Adolphus’ landmark donation, making a positive impact in the places where we live and work has been a core mission of the company. This commitment led to the creation of the Anheuser-Busch Foundation in 1975.
In its 40th year of giving, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation partners with organizations dedicated to causes in five key areas: education, environmental sustainability, disaster relief, economic development and supporting military personnel and their families.
Through the Anheuser-Busch Foundation, we donate financial and volunteer resources to hundreds of incredible non-profit organizations, including United Way, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and the National Urban League. We also work closely with organizations in our brewery markets, like Teach for America -St. Louis, Operation Food Search and Kingdom House in our hometown of St. Louis.
Since 1997, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation has provided more than $557 million to do just that, but we aren’t stopping there. Here’s to the next 40 years!
