The Anheuser-Busch Foundation Celebrates America Recycles Day with $150,000 Grant to the Glass Recycling Foundation

The grant will support expanding glass recycling access for communities across the country through localized pilot programs.

November 15, 2022 – In celebration of America Recycles Day, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation today announced a $150,000 grant to the Glass Recycling Foundation to support glass recycling in communities across the country. The donation will advance the Foundation’s continued efforts to encourage glass recycling and create a sustainable future for our communities and the planet.

“We thank Anheuser-Busch for their continued partnership to further the success of the glass recycling industry,” said Scott DeFife, President of the Glass Recycling Foundation. “This grant will enable us to fund projects of all sizes that help reduce waste from landfills and connect glass generators with consumers.”

Anheuser-Busch began its partnership with the Glass Recycling Foundation in March 2022 with a focus on funding projects that help expand or establish glass collection systems in cities and counties across the U.S. Through the brewer’s involvement, the Glass Recycling Foundation has co-funded innovative pilot projects, such as one with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ). In 2022, the Glass Recycling Foundation and NC DEQ together helped set up additional glass collection sites for North Carolina residents in the Village of Pinehurst, Moore County and Pitt County. These expansions will result in an estimated additional 700 tons per year of glass recycled from those communities.

“We’re thrilled to support the Glass Recycling Foundation and expand efforts in communities to encourage glass recycling,”said Virginia Covo,Senior Director of Sustainability at Anheuser-Busch and Board Member of the Glass Recycling Foundation. “This project is an important part of creating a more sustainable future for our planet by reducing waste and leaving our communities better than we found them.”

By supporting the Glass Recycling Foundation’s projects, Anheuser-Busch is building on its commitment to further sustainability efforts that have a positive impact on the environment and align with the brewer’s 2025 Sustainability Goal of having 100% of its packaging be either returnable or made from majority recycled content by 2025. This ongoing partnership with the Glass Recycling Foundation will also allow the company to explore new sustainability and recycling solutions and encourage all consumers to participate in local recycling efforts.

About The Glass Recycling Foundation

The Glass Recycling Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, was founded in April of 2019 to provide and raise funds for localized and targeted assistance, demonstration, and pilot projects that address gaps in the glass recycling supply chain across the United States.

The Glass Recycling Foundation works closely with the Glass Recycling Coalition, an organization that has championed glass recycling education, best practices, and technical support for communities, in identified targeted areas.
