Local brewery continues to reduce water consumption amidst California's fourth year of drought

ST. LOUIS (April 22, 2015) – Today the Anheuser-Busch Foundation announced its support of the ‘Save the Drop' campaign, being led by the Los Angeles Mayor's Office with the support of the Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles. The campaign will raise awareness with a goal of reducing water consumption in Los Angeles by 20 percent by 2017 as laid out in Mayor Eric Garcetti's Executive Directive on Water Conservation issued last fall.

"Public private partnerships are critical to driving impactful programs in Los Angeles,” said Deidre Lind, President, Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles.  "The generous contribution from Anheuser Busch will support the success of the city-wide Save the Drop campaign which ensures all Angelenos know how to conserve water and take advantage of related rebates and incentives."

The ‘Save the Drop' campaign, created by Mayor Garcetti, will help inform Los Angeles residents about the tools and rebates available to help conserve more water.  The campaign will promote water saving tips and programs in a variety of channels to reach Angelenos, from utility bill inserts to transit advertising to local events. The bi-lingual campaign will also launch on TV, radio and in movie theater ads by early summer.

“Water is a key ingredient in beer and of vital importance to our local communities. Our employees work each day to conserve and manage our water use carefully while making quality beer,” said Luis Cayo general manager, Los Angeles brewery, Anheuser-Busch.  “Anheuser-Busch shares in the Mayor's commitment to ‘save the drop' and are proud to join the call for communitywide action.”

Since 2009, the Los Angeles brewery has invested approximately $8 million in water conservation projects and reduced total use by 32 percent. Examples of projects and results include:

  • Employee engagement programs generating dozens of employee water-saving ideas that resulted in a 3 percent water reduction in 2014
  • Reuse of cleaning water and reclaiming water at pasteurizers
  • Replaced grass landscaping with artificial turf, rocks and drought-tolerant plants in 2014 saving 5 million gallons of water a year

In addition, Anheuser-Busch has provided 155,000 cans of emergency drinking water to Californians in 2015 through its emergency water donation partnership with the Red Cross.
